Some tips on preventing
smelly dog
farts

Dogs don’t get embarrassed about farting like we do. In fact, they’re
so relaxed at it, you usually don’t hear a dog’s fart and only know that
it’s occurred because you can smell it. Dog farts are more stinky than
human farts for a number of reasons including the fact that their dog
foods are often soy-based, which make them full of sulfur because it the
food is protein-rich. Dogs seem to enjoy smelling disgusting things, so
while they enjoy the smell of human flatulence, we don’t really enjoy
their farts quite as much. And it almost seems as if dogs wait until we
have company visiting the house until they decide to fart and when they
do, the room seems to fill with horrible gas faster than a speeding
bullet. So what causes dogs to have so much gas?
The tops reasons for flatulence in dogs are:
Eating too fast.
Eating a poor quality dog food.
Eating foods that are known to cause flatulence. (Do dogs eat beans,
broccoli and cauliflower?)
Just because the digestive process can cause gas.
The simple definition of flatulence is the release of excessive gas in
the stomach or intestines. That’s not too hard to understand, right? If
you’ve got too much gas, it has to go somewhere. Gas also comes from the
fermentation of foods in the colon, poorly digested protein, and
non-absorbable sugars like lactose. So what can you do to reduce the
amount of gas your dog chooses to share with you?
Things you can do to reduce the negative effects of dog flatulence:
Feed your dog more frequently with smaller portions
Exercise the dog more frequently to stimulate its intestines
Choose a premium brand of dog food that is highly digestible
Buy an additive (activated charcoal) for your dog’s food to reduce
farting (see your veterinarian first before doing this)
Don’t feed meat to your dog
Some breeds are more likely to be flatulent than others. Bulldogs, for
example are known for their excessive flatus. Squishy-faced dogs are
also more flatulent because more air that is swallowed while panting or
during vigorous activity, even during eating. Flat faced dogs with small
noses could undergo surgical correction of their closed nostrils,
allowing them to breathe out of their noses better, reducing open mouth
breathing, which lets in too much air, resulting in gas. It’s said that
the dogs that fart the most are German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers,
Boxers, Poodles, Dobermans, Cocker Spaniels, Rottweilers, Beagles, and
Dalmatians.
There is also a five-day course of treatment of pills to promote good
digestion for relief of intestinal gas and spasms. The ingredients are
all natural: China root, Coptis rhizome, Hawthorn fruit, Medicated
leaven, Radish seed, Tangerine peel, White atractylodes, and
Katsumanda's galangal seeds. (Chinese
Herbs)
When dogs eat too fast and get gas (by swallowing too much air), you can
do a couple of things to help remedy this situation. One is to give the
dog a wide feeding bowl and crush the food into the bowl so that the dog
has to eat smaller amounts at a time. Another way is to put a tennis
ball in the middle of the food bowl so that the dog has to eat around
the ball and can’t get too much in his mouth at one time.
Let’s face it, dogs fart.
