Hi am new to this form I had some question I was wondering if I can get some advice on. I have 2 dogs one is a female border collie 18 months she was our first dog (my husband and I) just about 3 weeks ago we added a puppy to our family a male boxer/pit/pointer mix he is 5 months and is very willing to please and has been very easy to train. Both dogs are getting along great and I haven't had really any problems. Just this past week my puppy (who seem to be almost %100 potty trained) started having ad lest 1 accident a day and not because he was not being taken out but almost deliberate. He seemS to only do it with my husband (I work nights he works days so he is home alone with them when I'm at work) since I know that usually the dogs find who is the "pack leader" which is me and they tend to listen more to that person. Anyways what thoughts does anyone have about this I don't know if he is testing my husband because I know he can hold it he holds it with me and in his crate all night for 8 hours or more. He starts puppy training this week so I plan to ask there as well but I am curious on ideas. I was thinking of having my husband crate him if he refuses to go and then having my husband wait 30 mins to an hour and try again and if he doesn't then back in the crate he goes. Does that sound like a good idea?

That sounds like an ideal idea.
I doubt it has anything to do with any outdated pack leader ideas. More likely it has to do with too much freedom. And if one person in the house is more lenient in that, well pups will take a mile when given an inch. That's the nature of their curiosity. Both people in the house need to follow the same protocol. Here's some suggestions. http://www.dogchatforum.com/house-training-puppy-dog.htm |
